CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – Radford’s Vincent Wyatt has been named the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Men’s Track Athlete of the Week, while Anna Scott of Campbell earned the Big South Women’s Track Athlete of the Week. Meanwhile, High Point’s Christian Spaulding and Oasis Hernandez of Liberty were tabbed the Men’s and Women’s Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, the League announced today.
Wyatt, a junior from Atlanta, Ga., bettered his own Big South 110-meter hurdles record with a time of 13.65 to win the event at the Virginia Invitational. His time is the 14th-fastest 110-meter hurdles time ran in the United States this season.
Scott, a freshman from Kingston, Jamaica, turned in a school-record and personal-best time of 11.53 to place fourth in the 100-meter event at the Florida State Twilight last weekend. She also captured the gold medal in the 200-meter dash as she crossed the line in a time of 23.52.
Spaulding, a junior from Middletown, N.J., unleashed a throw of 215’ 10” to finish third in the javelin at the North Carolina A&T Last Chance meet over the weekend.
Hernandez, a freshman from Emporia, Kan., made her final attempt in the triple jump at Roanoke a good one as she posted a personal-record jump of 41’ 0.50” to finish 1st overall in the event. Her jump put her in good position to qualify for the NCAA East Preliminary in the event.
Men’s Track Honorable Mentions:
Stevie Brunson, Coastal Carolina – Ran a personal-best time of 47.96 in the 400-meter event at North Carolina A&T. His time is currently ranked No. 5 on the all-time Coastal Carolina performance list as he won his heat and finished 10th overall.
Jacob Smith, High Point – Placed second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at Virginia with a clocking of 8:57.46. His time is currently ranked No. 24 in the NCAA East Region.
Men’s Field Honorable Mention:
Davian Rhodes, Campbell – Cleared a personal-best height of 6’ 8.75” to place fourth at North Carolina A&T.
Women’s Track Honorable Mention:
Christina Davis, Coastal Carolina – Turned in a personal-best time of 59.62 to win the 400-meter event at North Carolina A&T.
Women’s Field Honorable Mention:
Amira Al-Bayyinah, Coastal Carolina – Placed first in the triple jump at North Carolina A&T with a distance of 40’ 6.0”.
