CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – Campbell’s Stanley Hicks has been named the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Men’s Track Athlete of the Week, while Anna Scott of Campbell earned the Big South Women’s Track Athlete of the Week. Meanwhile, Liberty’s Zach Davis and Janae Jones were tabbed the Men’s and Women’s Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, the League announced today.
Hicks, a junior from Wilson, N.C., turned in a Big South season-best time of 20.81 in the 200meter event to place sixth overall at the Liberty Twilight last week. His time is currently ranked No. 23 in the region in the event.
Davis, a freshman from Sparta, N.J., cleared a facility-record height of 7’ 0.25” in the high jump to win the event at the Liberty Twilight.
Scott, a freshman from Kingston, Jamaica, turned in a pair of school records last week. She got her week going with a school-record time of 23.42 to finish as the top collegiate finisher in the 200-meter dash at the Liberty Twilight. Two days later, she posted a school-record time of 11.61 as she finished second in the 100-meter event at the Tennessee Challenge. Both times rank No. 1 in the Big South. Scott’s 200-meter finish is currently ranked No. 23 in the NCAA East Region.
Jones, a sophomore from Matoaca, Va., placed first in the triple jump at the Liberty Twilight with a leap of 41’ 0.25”.
Men’s Track Honorable Mentions:
Jacob Smith, High Point – Placed first in the 1,500-meter event at the Liberty Twilight with a time of 3:46.51.
John Sherrett, Liberty – Ran the fastest 800-meter time by a Liberty Flame since 2010 as he turned in a personal-best time of 1:50.92 to place second at the Liberty Twilight.
Men’s Field Honorable Mentions:
Christian Spaulding, High Point – Turned in a throw of 218’ 6.0” to win the javelin at the Liberty Twilight.
Women’s Field Honorable Mention:
Chrissy Rickert, High Point – Won the javelin event at the Liberty Twilight with mark of 141’ 5.0”.
